Day One: Transfer to Kibale
Upon arrival you will be received by staff from Katnkar Safaris, who will brief you and transfer you to a hotel for breakfast before you embark on your journey to Kibale Forest National Park. The drive is incredibly scenic, passing through villages, lush green countryside, and hills covered by tea plantations.
The park is popular for its primates, such as the grey-cheeked mangabeys, colobus monkeys, and chimpanzees. They are usually seen swinging in the trees and enjoying wild fruits.
We shall make a stopover in Fort Portal town for lunch, then proceed to Turaco Treetops for accommodation and dinner as we relax in preparation for tomorrow's activities.
Accommodation: Turaco Treetops
Meals: All meals and soft drinks
Day Two: Chimp Tracking and Visit to Bigodi Swamp
We shall have a very early breakfast and leave for the trekking point for briefing. Our ranger guide will take us through the dos and don'ts while trekking. The trek is beautiful and you will be marveled by the sights of primates and birds here. After locating the chimps we shall spend a maximum of an hour with them before returning to the lodge for lunch and relaxation.
Later in the afternoon we shall set out for a nature walk in the Bigodi swamp. The wetland sanctuary is a fascinating area, recognised for its extensive array of biodiversity, including primate species like baboons, vervet monkeys, L'Hoest's monkeys, and black-and-white colobus monkeys. Most importantly, it's a paradise for birders, with a variety of bird species, the most notable being the Great Blue Turaco.
Accommodation: Turaco Treetops
Meals: All meals and soft drinks
Day Three: Queen Elizabeth National Park
After our breakfast we shall leave Kibale National Park and drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park. Located at the base of the Rwenzori Mountains, the park is the second largest in the country, with a diverse ecosystem that includes several crater lakes, forested areas, and sprawling savannah, making it an ideal habitat for classic big game, aquatic animals, over 600 bird species, and primates including chimps in the Kyambura Gorge.
The park has a lot to offer, and you will only be limited by your time. We shall check into our accommodation and relax over lunch, then later go for a sunset boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel. The channel connects Lakes Albert and George and has a high concentration of crocodiles, hippos, elephants, and water birds. We then return to the lodge for dinner and a night's stay.
Day Four: Queen's Morning Game Drive
Be up early and have your breakfast, then proceed for a game drive. Be on the lookout for lions, elephants, bushbucks, Cape buffalos, giant forest hogs, Uganda kobs, and (if lucky) leopards. Several bird species will be spotted too. Just make a list of what you wish to see and we shall look out for each. Return to the lodge for relaxation and lunch.
The afternoon will be another adventure hour driving around the crater explosion lakes. The spectacular scenery is breathtaking, and you will be able to view more animals, mainly Cape buffalos and elephants. We shall also visit the salt extraction point at Lake Katwe. Return to the lodge for dinner and relaxation.
Accommodation: Songbird Safari Lodge
Meals: All meals and soft drinks
Day Five: Tree-Climbing Lions
We shall have early breakfast and drive to the territory of the tree-climbing queens and kings of the jungle. The sight of these majestic creatures resting upon tree branches is amazing. Thereafter we shall transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, the home of mountain gorillas. We shall check into our hotel, have lunch and dinner, and get a good night's sleep as we prepare for our next adventure.
Day Six: Gorilla Trekking and Community Visit
We shall be up early for our breakfast and head to the briefing point for instructions, then embark on this lifetime experience, wandering through a dense, misty, and hilly forest with a slippery ground surface, crisscrossed by numerous animal trails allowing access to tourists.
After the strenuous activity we shall return to the lodge for lunch, then drive to Lake Bunyonyi and relax while enjoying the lake views.
Day Seven: Transfer to Kampala
After a good night's rest, we shall have a delicious breakfast. It's time to say goodbye to the land of mountain gorillas and drive back to Kampala, with stopovers in Mbarara for lunch and a cultural centre visit, as well as at the Equator point in Masaka for photography and souvenir purchasing.
End of our trip.
